How to run a download on the terminal

A download refreshes the terminal's settings from the processor. It's the first fix for most odd behaviour.

What's happening

A download pulls the terminal's configuration down from the processor again. If the terminal started behaving oddly — declining cards it used to take, printing the wrong header, showing an error you've never seen — a download is the first thing to try, because it puts the settings back to a known good state.

Before you start

  • Close the current batch first if you have open transactions
  • Confirm the terminal is on the network — the connection icon should be solid
  • Set aside about ten minutes; don't take cards while it runs

Fix it

  1. From the idle screen, press the menu key.
  2. Choose Admin, then enter your manager passcode.
  3. Choose Download, then Start.
  4. The screen shows a progress counter. Leave it alone — do not unplug it.
  5. When it finishes, the terminal restarts on its own.
  6. Run one $1.00 test sale, confirm it approves, then void it.

Did that work?

Yes — you're back in service.

No — note the exact error on screen and call us with it.

Stop and call us

Call if the download fails twice, if it stops partway and the terminal returns to a setup screen instead of the idle screen, or if the terminal approves the test sale but your POS doesn't see it. Read us the error word for word — it tells us where in the process it stopped.
