What's happening
A terminal that's fine all day and dead at opening almost always lost power or lost the network overnight. Two common causes: it's plugged into a socket on the alarm or lighting circuit, or the network gear is on an overnight timer.
Before you start
- Find out which socket the terminal is actually plugged into
- Ask whoever locks up whether anything gets switched off at close
Fix it
- Follow the power lead to the socket. If it's on a switched or timer socket, move it to one that stays live.
- Check the router and any network switch. If they're on a timer, the terminal comes back before the network does and gives up.
- Unplug the terminal's power for thirty seconds, then plug it back in.
- Wait for the idle screen and check the connection icon is solid.
- Run one $1.00 test sale and void it.
- Tomorrow morning, check it before you do anything else — that tells us whether the change worked.
Did that work?
Yes — you're set.
No — call us rather than making the restart part of opening.
